Shortcuts and automations

GearKit’s actions work outside the app. Put them in an automation and the logging happens on its own. Five recipes to start from; change the gear and the trigger to suit yours.

  1. 1

Log a ride when the workout ends

iPhone · Shortcuts · Apple Watch
    When
    A cycling workout ends
    Then
    Log Usage · Gravel bike

    Set it up

    1. In Shortcuts, open Automation and tap New Automation.
    2. Pick Workout, choose Ends, and set the type to Cycling.
    3. Choose Run Immediately, then add GearKit’s Log Usage action and pick Gravel bike.

On Android Set up the Quick Settings tile with Gravel bike. One tap after the ride logs it.

  2. 2

At the workshop, hear what’s due

    iPhone · Shortcuts
    When
    I arrive at the workshop
    Then
    What’s Due

    Set it up

    1. In Shortcuts, open Automation and tap New Automation.
    2. Pick Arrive, choose the workshop’s address, and Run Immediately.
    3. Add GearKit’s What’s Due action. The reply lists the most urgent jobs, or “All wound up.”

On Android Long-press GearKit’s icon and tap What’s due. It opens Home on what needs attention.

  3. 3

    First Saturday of the month

    iPhone · Shortcuts
    When
Saturday, 9:00, in the first week
    Then
    What’s Due

    Set it up

    1. In Shortcuts, open Automation, tap New Automation and pick Time of Day.
    2. Set 9:00, Weekly, on Saturday, and Run Immediately.
    3. Add Format Date with the current date and the custom format d, then If the result is less than 8.
    4. Inside the If, add GearKit’s What’s Due action.

On Android Long-press GearKit’s icon and tap What’s due on your Saturday round.

  4. 4

Tap a sticker, log a flight

iPhone · Shortcuts · any NFC sticker
    When
The phone touches the sticker on the drone case
    Then
    Log Usage · FPV drone

    Set it up

    1. In Shortcuts, open Automation, tap New Automation and pick NFC.
    2. Tap Scan, hold the phone to the sticker and give it a name.
    3. Choose Run Immediately, then add GearKit’s Log Usage action and pick FPV drone. Run this way, there is no banner to tap first.
    4. If the sticker is a GearKit tag (Link an NFC tag on the item’s page), the automation takes over on this iPhone, and the tag still opens GearKit on any other phone.

On Android Link the sticker as a GearKit tag from the item’s page (Link an NFC tag). Holding the phone to it opens GearKit and logs straight away, with Undo.

  5. 5

    One press, job done

iPhone 15 Pro and later · Action button
    When
    I press the Action button
    Then
Mark Job Done · Recharge batteries

    Set it up

    1. Open Settings › Action Button and swipe to Controls.
    2. Tap Choose a Control, find GearKit and pick Mark Job Done (or Log Usage).
    3. Choose the job. A press marks it done without opening the app.

On Android Set up the Quick Settings tile with the job. One tap in Quick Settings marks it done.

Every action, phrase and control is in the manual.
