How it works
Sealant is water-based and dries out with time, heat and distance. The makers’ figures: Stan’s Original stays liquid 2–7 months; Schwalbe Doc Blue lasts about 2000 km or 2–7 months; Muc-Off lasts up to 6 months in a temperate climate and needs topping up as needed above about 35 °C; Hunt says top up every 2–3 months, more often in heat or warm storage.
The check uses the short end of each range, so the reminder comes while there’s still sealant to find. For Doc Blue, the distance takes over when you ride more than about 1000 km a month. GearKit counts by date, so a bike that sits all winter still gets checked.
